community compost in the market
Did you know a head of lettuce can take up to 22 years to decompose in a landfill? The Ypsilanti Farmers Markets Community Compost program helps divert food scraps from the waste stream and turn them into healthy soil for our community.

Together, we can reduce food waste and nourish the environment.

how it works

what's compostable?
As a rule of thumb, if nature made it, it’s probably compostable!
Food waste is one of the largest contributors to landfill emissions.
Composting helps:
-
Reduce methane emissions
-
Improve soil health
-
Support local food production
-
Close the loop between food waste and farming
By composting your scraps, you help create a more sustainable local food system in Ypsilanti.
